U.S. Transhumanist Party General Discussion Thread for 2023
The purpose of this post is to facilitate member comments pertaining to transhumanism and the U.S. Transhumanist Party (USTP), which might not specifically fit the subjects of any other post or article on the USTP website. This is the place for members to offer suggestions or converse about any areas of emerging technologies and their political, moral, societal, cultural, and esthetic implications. The general discussion thread is also an ideal location to suggest or propose platform planks that may be considered for future platform voting, and/or bring our attention to emerging legislative and societal developments that may affect the course and impact of emerging technologies.
The USTP will endeavor to open one of these general comment threads per year. This comment thread pertains to the year of 2023.
Type in your comments below. Please note that, to protect against spambots, the first comment by any individual will be moderated. After passing moderation, a civil commenter should be able to post comments without future moderation – although we cannot guarantee that the technical aspect of this functionality will work as intended 100% of the time.

The call for $100 billion per year in funding for aging research is what I love in USTP the most (Section CIV of Platform).
I have several suggestions:
1) Can we make a special page on USTP website where every willing person could support this call?
One of possible methods of verification could be suggesting person to write a comment under a special post of USTP Twitter page, stating their support.
2) Can we make a special page on USTP website with FAQ on life extension, addressing benefits and concerns about life extension? Smth like this: https://www.senescence.info/physical_immortality_myths.html but we can try to make it even better.
3) Can we move Section CIV on https://transhumanist-party.org/platform/ from “COVID-19 Responses” subject to “Technological Advocacy and Policies for Achieving Longevity” subject?
4) Can we vote on removing or diminishing covid-19 context in this Section CIV?
My minimal change proposal is as following (words were only added, no words were removed):
“Because biological aging is the number-one risk factor for mortality and disabilities in elderly people, and for severe complications from COVID-19 infections, as well as infections of virtually every sort, the United States Transhumanist Party emphasizes the importance of reversing biological aging as rapidly as possible and thereby protecting more lives in particular from future pandemics. Accordingly, the United States Transhumanist Party advocates for a permanent, annual $100 billion funding package for anti-aging research, to be immediately distributed to leading research organizations in the field which have in the past specifically identified the defeat and reversal of biological aging as their goals”.
The change that I wanted more would be:
“Because biological aging is the number-one risk factor for mortality and disabilities in elderly people, and thus brutally violates the fundamental rights of people to life and health, the United States Transhumanist Party emphasizes the importance of reversing biological aging as rapidly as possible and thereby protecting more lives. Accordingly, the United States Transhumanist Party advocates for a permanent, annual $100 billion funding package for anti-aging research, to be immediately distributed to leading research organizations in the field which have in the past specifically identified the defeat and reversal of biological aging as their goals”
5) Can we vote for a new Section on supporting research for reversible cryopreservation?
It can sound as follows:
“Recognizing that the achievement of reversible cryopreservation technique could enable the realization of individuals’ right to life (brutally violated by so-called “natural” death) by waiting until future technologies could bring the patient out of cryopreserved state, and cure of diseases and aging, the United States Transhumanist Party emphasizes the urgency of advancing reversible cryopreservation research. Therefore, the United States Transhumanist Party supports the allocation of an annual funding package of $10 billion for reversible cryopreservation research. This funding shall be expeditiously directed to esteemed research institutions with a proven track record of focusing on the development and implementation of reversible cryopreservation techniques”
6) In case if we vote and accept new Section on reversible cryopreservation research, I suggest that we make a special page on USTP website where every willing person could support this call on cryopreservation as well.
I think we can do the same for each of our USTP Platform Sections, but I’d be glad if we begin from Section CIV and proposed section on cryopreservation.
7) As another alternative to (1) and (6) I suggest that we just publish Open Letters calling for launching (a) a Moonshot project to end aging and age-related diseases (b) a Moonshot project on reversible cryopreservation.
The possible draft of Open Letter on ending aging is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SH9sXpJgu1NIEihy1kqnk3SkZN1dDmSv-sADuAifkRw/edit
That document contanis also a list of questions that can be discussed regarding such an open letter.
That document also contains a draft of the open letter on cryonics research but it needs more improvements currently.
Also please note that I’m not native english speaker, so my proposals regarding formulations might have mistakes or unnaturally sounding parts, I certainly would be glad if you correct them. My proposals at this stage are more like drafts open for discussion.
