Tribute to John Kerecz (1961 – 2025)
The U.S. Transhumanist Party and the broader transhumanist community have been devastated by the loss of John Kerecz, one of the USTP’s most dedicated Officers and its Director of Energy Issues since 2020, who died unexpectedly on May 16, 2025, at the age of 63. On May 8, he tore his quadriceps and was expected to go in for surgery during the week that he died. However, before he was able to receive the surgery, he succumbed suddenly to a pulmonary embolism that resulted from his injury. John Kerecz’s official obituary can be found here.
John’s involvement with the U.S. Transhumanist Party spanned the past five and three-quarters years – since August 2019, when he entered the USTP Presidential Primary as one of the candidates seeking our nomination. Out of all of the candidates competing during that primary, John has made the most enduring impact upon our organization, continuing to serve as a USTP Officer since 2020 and remaining a major source of insight, stability, and good sense – always being steadfast in his support of his fellow Officers and the USTP as an organization.
He interviewed multiple transhumanists, including USTP Chairman Gennady Stolyarov II, 2024 Presidential Candidate Tom Ross, and 2024 Vice-Presidential Candidate Daniel Twedt, numerous times, and made an appearance on transhumanist shows as well, including Steele Archer’s “Debt Nation” show, and our very own Virtual Enlightenment Salon, where he presented on January 23, 2022, about his epic 2014 journey to the edge of space. John was a prolific content creator, releasing videos on his OSH Radio channel up to the very day of his death. He was a man who loved life and lived it to the fullest, whose adventures in travel and in the realms of the mind made for a story unlike any other – whose richness of experience we can only imagine, and whose irreplaceable internal universe is now unfortunately lost to us. John wanted to live, to create more, to experience more. Now all we have of him is what he left behind. It is but a shadow of the man himself, but still, it is a lot.
On Sunday, May 25, 2025, the U.S. Transhumanist Party streamed a video tribute to John Kerecz to celebrate his many contributions to the advancement of transhumanism. In it you will see and hear just an infinitesimal fraction of what John Kerecz was about, but we hope that it will still give you a glimpse of his many thoughtful ideas on transhumanist topics and politics more generally.
This tribute features John Kerecz’s first video appearance in the transhumanist community, on Episode 46 of Steele Archer’s Debt Nation show (aired on August 20, 2019), where Steele Archer asked John Kerecz a series of questions to form a comprehensive candidate profile.
The tribute continues with excerpts from the September 14, 2019, Third Virtual Debate of U.S. Transhumanist Party Presidential Primary Candidates, with a specific focus on John Kerecz’s responses to the debate questions.
The last half-hour of the stream features some of John’s musical creations, including the last music videos he ever posted. They are enjoyable, thought-provoking, and speak to profound themes of life, death, and purpose – which John explored up until the very end.

Of all of the people in our transhumanist community, John left perhaps the most extensive public mindfile behind. We hope that it will be of benefit to humanity and give us all an enduring impression of who John Kerecz was, so that we may continue to benefit from his wisdom and be inspired by his incredible versatility as a creator. We only wish that he had been here with us to continue to enjoy these works himself and to create many others. John ended many of his short videos with the words, “Live long and prosper”. Unfortunately, he will not get to. But we know that he would wish it for us. Thank you to all of you today who join us in remembering him. He will be missed in ways that cannot be replaced and will not be forgotten.
Biography of John Kerecz, Written by Himself
John Joseph Kerecz (September 10, 1961 – May 16, 2025) lived a life rich in accomplishments, goal-reaching, and harnessing his talents. Though he had an impressive professional and educational legacy, having worked for more than thirty-five years in engineering and technological fields, he was better known by his friends and loved ones as the owner of OSHRadio.com and as an adventurer with well-rounded and fulfilled ambitions. Kerecz also had a passion for the arts; he had authored books (nine of which are listed on Amazon), appeared in various films, and started being a part-time radio and TV personality in the early 1980s. His dynamic range of professional, thrill-seeking, and artistic experiences painted him as a dreamer with no limits.
Kerecz had an impressive repertoire of world travel experiences, having even been launched into the edge of space from Sokol Airbase in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. This endeavor was inspired by his always-present admiration of outer space, and his inability to take no for an answer when it came to the question of whether or not he could get close to it! He also wouldn’t take no for an answer when it came to the question of accomplishing other dreams; for example, he needed to undergo a hip-replacement surgery, but this did not stop him from taking a seven-country hiking trip shortly afterward. One of the countries on this trip was Tibet, and he had the pleasure of trekking across the land of temples and nature, eventually reaching a base camp at Mount Everest. Other countries on this trip included China, Turkey, Italy, and more. He fulfilled his dream of visiting the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu in 2024.
It is no surprise that if someone had asked Kerecz as a child what he wanted to be when he grew up, he would have said that he aspired to become a superhero! Though this may not be the most expected answer for a child to provide, it showed that he had big dreams and boundless confidence from a young age. He considered his experience in practicing karate and kung-fu, as well as his familial influences, as being positively impactful on his childhood. He prospered in school, having taken to heart the advice of art teachers who dared him to dream even bigger, and having paid close attention to his lectures in science classes.
Kerecz called central Pennsylvania his home. He received both his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees at Penn State University. Additionally, however, he considered “home” to be anywhere his loved ones were. Throughout his adventures, his loved ones supported him and remained the most important factor in his life. They lovingly knew him as spontaneous and crazy, using these words only to reflect on his naturally fun and daring manner. When he was not working, spending time with loved ones, or trekking around the world, he liked to exercise his body and mind. Kerecz enjoyed visiting the gym and reading books, especially works by Anne Rice.
His repertoire of experiences led him to hold closely onto ideals of peace and love. He was dynamically spiritual, having Christian and some Buddhist Zen beliefs. John Kerecz believed that everything happens for a reason and that everyone was born for a specific purpose. He truly followed this belief, setting an example of how people should explore their own destinies.

John Kerecz will always be remembered as one of the forward-thinking champions of humankind’s future – a precursor to our species’ journey to the stars. His name will be written in the stars as one of the visionaries who made the future Transhuman Era possible.
John Kerecz will be missed by everyone in the transhumanist community and all those whose lives he affected for the better.
